What’s the difference?

Wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers all have different modes of action. On injection, wrinkle relaxers like Dysport® momentarily interfere with nerve impulses to specific muscles, cause paralysis and stop wrinkles and lines from forming. Dermal fillers such as Restylane®, on the other hand, add substance under the skin. Dermal fillers work best on deep wrinkles and hollows.

Here are the different ways of using injectables:

  • Wrinkle relaxers: Alleviates frown lines between the eyes and eyebrows, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
  • Dermal fillers: Makes skin look smoother by filling or softening the appearance of scars and lines, buff up skin by replacing lost volume

Share your problem with us no matter how complicated, and at the Hale Road Medical Clinic, we will restore your youthful looks. Please book an appointment with us and experience quality plans for all your needs. We have the best experience of using fillers and relaxers to create a smooth, fair appearance.

Wrinkle relaxers – Dysport® and Restylane

As we make facial expressions, wrinkles form around the face and forehead. With age, these lines become common features even when muscles are relaxed. Dysport® and Restylane are examples of injectable solutions that are used to counter wrinkles and lines on the brow. Wrinkle relaxers temporarily prevent movement of specific facial muscles allowing the skin to even out. Because of this, injectable relaxers are recommended for frown and laugh lines. To learn more about Dysport® and Restylane and how we use them, book an appointment with our expert specialists registered nurse Lisa Duanne at our Perth, Western Australia office, to find the best solution for you.

Dermal fillers – What we recommend

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the commonly used synthetic base in many fillers to soften skin. Different combinations can be used, each targeting various spots on your skin. For example, facial wrinkles and folds, mild to severe wrinkles and volume loss, smile and laugh lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, etc. Fillers also improve the appearance of lips and sunken cheeks and thin lips. Options for dermal fillers include these popular injectables:

  • Juvéderm
  • Restylane
  • Dysport®

Double chin

Did you know there are injections to get rid of excess fat under the skin? A double chin results from fat accumulation on the upper neck, which not many people live confidently with. No matter the cause, ageing, genetics, or weight gain, at Hale Road Medical Clinic, this is eliminated using our long-term proved methods. The product we use increases fat breakdown and metabolism to give you a chiselled jawline. This is a long-term option that ensures the fat never returns once it has been eliminated.

What to expect

When you come for a skin rejuvenating procedure at our medical centre, you and your injector will talk about your problem as well as what you want to achieve. In order to understand your facial structure and anatomy, you will need to make some facial expressions. Using a fine needle, your injector will inject a relaxer or filler on specific spots on your skin to eliminate wrinkles and lines.

After the procedure, you will return to your regular daily routines. It does not take long to recover from injections, but this depends on the product used; therefore, it’s advised you speak to a qualified person to avoid some nasty side effects. The injection site can have some short-lived redness or swelling. While many of these unwanted effects are alleviated by avoiding touching the injection site, you will have to sleep upright for some days to prevent unnecessary swelling. Don’t forget to book a follow up touch-up appointment at Hale Road Medical Clinic, Perth, Western Australia, to maintain your results.

Temporary vs. Permanent Dermal Fillers: Which One Is the Right Choice for You?

Dermal fillers, also called facial fillers, are popular cosmetic procedures, particularly in young adults. As the procedure is minimally invasive, lasting not more than 20 minutes, more people use them to improve the look of their skin. This is a quick procedure that can be done immediately after a consultation with a skin doctor and nurse.

The most important call is choosing the procedure; temporary, permanent, or semi-permanent dermal fillers. Read through this to know more about these procedures.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

This simple procedure is used for people who want to reduce facial wrinkles and facial lines. Many varieties of dermal fillers are also available to choose from. Even though some patients will need more than one injection, the endpoint is vibrant skin, no matter the number of injections. You and your facial plastic surgeon will discuss available options so that they can help you look young once more.

Types of Dermal Fillers

The different types of dermal fillers include:

  • Temporary Dermal Fillers

These are popular types. Temporary dermal fillers come in three varieties: calcium hydroxylapatite fillers, hyaluronic acid-based fillers, and collagen-based fillers. Temporary fillers last about six months to a year, depending on the number of injections used. At Hale Road Medical Clinic, we only specialize in Non-Permanent fillers.

  • Semi-Permanent Dermal Fillers

Semi-permanent fillers are denser than temporary fillers and last longer because the body needs more time to break down the synthetic material. Made of a compound called poly-L-lactic acid, semi-permanent fillers target deeper laugh lines, wrinkles, marionette lines, and crow’s feet. While they can last up to 18 months, semi-permanent fillers still need the occasional touchup to maintain their structure.

  • Permanent Dermal Fillers

Permanent fillers are the thickest of all. Unlike semi-permanent and temporary fillers, the body takes the most time in breakdown; therefore, it lasts longer. Permanent fillers are injected into areas that have thick skin, for example, nasolabial folds, and will last approximately five years or more.

Dermal Fillers Pros and Cons

Temporary Dermal Fillers

Pros:

  • As it is not meant for long-term use, you can use more products and get a formulation that will not affect your skin.
  • You choose the number of fillers you wish to use and use another treatment if the results are not as expected.
  • Quick and non-invasive procedure.
  • Rapid recovery and has tolerable side effects.

Cons:

  • Lasts a shorter time and is applied more than once.
  • Side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, and some pain at the injection site, lasting for about a week.

Permanent Dermal Fillers

Pros:

  • Lasts for some years before it needs to be replaced.
  • Quick procedure and is not invasive.

Cons:

  • As the formulation is dense, the body is not able to degrade it.
  • There are procedures to remove the filler but are difficult and complicated.
  • You may end up not liking the long-term results.
